New Sender Requirements

On October 3, 2023 major Email providers, Google and Yahoo mandated a set of requirements for large volume senders. These best practices (below) are not new but it’s only now that they are being enforced as requirements. As of Feb 1, 2024, both Gmail and Yahoo Mail, will be checking if Emails received on their servers are compliant for these requirements.

Authenticate your  Emails: Your sender domain (after the @ in your sender email address) should be authenticated for DKIM, at the least. In short, DKIM is a technology which makes sure that you have authorised an Email Service Provider like Juvlon, to send your Email for you. This helps prevent spoofing and reduces phishing to a large extent. Read more about Email Authentication.

For Juvlon customers, DKIM authentication simply means you need to add the following record in the DNS of your sender domain. For example, if your Email sender domain is YOURSENDERDOMAIN.COM, the DNS entry should be

Type: CNAME

Host: juv2048._domainkey.YOURSENDERDOMAIN.COM

Value: juv2048._domainkey.juvlonns.com

Make it easy to Unsubscribe: There should be a clear unsubscribe link in your Email. You should be using the list-unsubscribe header in your Emails. And you should honour the unsubscription request within 2 days. Juvlon is already compliant to these unsubscription methods, so you have nothing to worry about as a customer.

Send Emails that are actually wanted: Most Email providers, including Gmail and Yahoo Mail, have systems in-place to monitor spam complaints. Now, Gmail plans to block senders with high spam-complaint rates. Yahoo Mail is already known to do this, however they will be getting more aggressive now.

It’s not clear exactly when Gmail and Yahoo Mail will start rejecting Emails that are not compliant. It is expected that they will start delaying mails soon enough and by April 2024 bounces should be more evident due to rejections.

At Juvlon, we are already encouraging a minority of our non-compliant customers to authenticate their senders. We’re bringing in controls to ensure all sender emails have to be authenticated by March 1, 2024. Shortly, we will be adding features to ensure your subscribers are more engaged with your communication, so that the Emails you send are truly wanted.
